Quarry Bay School is a four-form entry school with approximately 720 students.

Assistant - Resources

Responsibilities

The QBS Resources Assistant will support day to day operations of the Quarry Bay School library and its resources.

The QBS Resources Assistant should:
have a keen interest in children’s literature
be enthusiastic to share literature knowledge with students to inspire them to read and discover new books
have experience of working with primary age students or relevant experience and potential to thrive in a school context
possess good organisational skills

General duties:
work under the supervision and direction of the Teacher Librarian to effectively and efficiently manage the school’s library collection and other resource collections
promote a welcoming and helpful image of the library
teach students how to effectively use the library, answer questions about library services and help teachers and students locate materials for their classrooms
assist with tasks related to loaning and recollecting library materials
complete work such as cataloging new arrivals, working with databases and updating the library's website and online services
evaluate and prioritize projects
learn library classifications and arrangements
perform detailed and wide-ranging tasks and follow up on questions or problems which may present themselves.
communicate with parents who support the library
have an ability and willingness to self-start, perform and follow up on day-to-day tasks and projects
run the overdue system
help plan and advertise special library events
become familiar with all library systems, materials and services
supporting the school librarian with the supervision of students using the library
work towards and support the school vision and current school objectives as outlined in the school development plan
shelving stock and keeping the library in good order
withdrawing stock under the direction of the school librarian
catalogue reading materials and resources on shelves and on computerised system
tidy and organise resources in library or as directed in other resource collections
on occasions, assist with resource management to support the curriculum (e.g., art orders)

Requirements

Desirable:
possess a working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system/ librarianship skills

Requirements
Form 5 or above or Office Administration course or equivalent.
A good command of English is essential.
Must be able to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
A good team player, reliable and work independently
Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues and parents
The successful candidate will need to be flexible and have good interpersonal skills.
Good ICT skills, particularly knowledge of WORD and EXCEL would be useful..
