Higher Education Counsellor


We are looking for somebody to join the West Island School team as a HE careers counsellor.

For the right candidate who has qualifications and experience, there is an opportunity to be considered as the Head of Careers Education Year 11-13. Please indicate on your application form if this is a role you might be interested in.

We employ two full time HE Counsellors and an administrative assistant to support students who make a wide range of choices for their future at University. The most popular destinations include Hong Kong, UK, US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

There are many routes into HE counselling and we understand that you may hold either a recognised teaching qualification or a degree alongside further professional qualifications in the field. We have the flexibility to appoint the best people and West Island School can reward you with a competitive salary, MPF contributions and access to a large network of careers advisors and training programmes. This is a support staff position and is not eligible for gratuity.

To provide careers guidance to Year 10-13 students to help them manage their subject choices in school, their career goals and therefore their university/college applications successfully.

• Bachelor’s Degree;
• Certificate or Diploma in Careers Counselling/ Counselling/ Psychology;
• Appropriate further professional qualifications and experience
• Fluent communication skills in English, both spoken and written
• Previous experience in a guidance, counselling or advisory roles specifically related to managing processes and relationships
• Well developed counselling skills with students
• Well developed understanding of IT systems that support higher education guidance
• Determination to develop professional and keep up to date with developments in higher education guidance
